(Instead of blowing the above video off right away, because it is ‘pop’ and KP, ask yourself, why this works? Message? Symbolism? How it is co-opted? What is being assumed? What is left out? etc.)
So we brush tangents off our t-shirts
and look in each other’s direction, briefly;
I beg, “If you must be bound to something,
be bound to revolution!”
Your gaze speaks disdain (at best, boredom).
Still, I plead:
“If not for ideals (I know there are none that suffice),
then for the hurricanes, the storms, the tempests!
Gods, for the conflicts of mind!”
I don’t know if you hear. They say that youth
moves so fast these days that marketers and
branders (those who keep watch with microscopes)
cannot keep pace with you.
But I wonder, if those who seek to profit by the shares
of pattern seeking are simply looking for your core,
sons and daughters, if you are not best served
playing Br’rer Rabbit all the time.
Run, rabbit, into the Briar patch! You have sense enough,
strength enough, and purpose enough still!
The very minute they know how to reach you,
be gone, young hare. Be in absentia, dear rabbit.
I’ve struggled with the blessing and the curse
of corpo-government
acknowledgement of marginality,
and watched as Oreos were erected in our honor.

I have lost my taste for branded lipids
and for neon, rubber soled love sonnets.
My young hoppers, if you’d like, my radical nature
has driven me to desire honest spittle over obsequious fluff.
You might understand:
a parent’s pillow is never as soft as is promised-
there are rules aligned with one’s “freedom”,
and usually this means
“Let us always be able to identify you.”
